Backyard America: Deck Drainage Systems
Backyard America: Deck Drainage Systems

Over the past 10 years several products have been developed to make the space under a open sun deck usable by draining away the water that falls on the deck as rain or snow. Before these new systems homeowners were forced to use corrugated fiberglass panels that were unsightly and a fire hazard. Also they rarely lasted more than a few years without leaking.
Locally we developed a system that we call RoofBelow. Our exclusive under-deck roof system keeps the area under your deck dry and attractive at a very affordable price using flat aluminum panels. Because of excessive shipping cost, RoofBelow is only offered in Northern Virginia. However as listed below there are many other systems available that do the same thing.

With these systems the area under your raised deck becomes much more usable. Your children can have a play area outside when it's raining. You'll have dry storage for lawn and garden tools and equipment, your outdoor furniture, or even firewood. Most systems installs easily under most new and older decks in less than a day. Some require a contractor to install, others are made for do-it-yourselfers.

One of the biggest differences between systems is the surface of the ceiling. Many of the first systems to be developed were corrugated. They were designed to fit between the floor joists of the deck. These systems still exist and many have been improved so that they are effective and attractive. Systems developed later mostly create a flat ceiling like our RoofBelow. Their developers believe that they have a more natural look.
